Bed Bug Self Treatment Option -"The Bed Bug Bullet"
Treating bed bugs can get pricey. Heat treatment for bed bugs is unfortunately very pricey. The reason heat treatment is so expensive to you the customer is because the cost of doing a bed bug heat treatment is expensive for the pest control operator. First, the equipment to perform heat treatment can run from $25,000 to $60,000. The heaters use large amounts of either propane gas or electricity provided by a gas powered generators, both of which are costly. A crew of at least three experienced, well trained (higher paid) people are needed to set-up the equipment, prep the house and constantly monitor the heat conditions for 8 to 15 hours for effective heat treatment.
Chemical treatment is about 1/3 less expensive than heat treatment and uses the application of liquid, powdered and foamed insecticides. Two to three applications will usually be required. It is very labor intensive and requires a lot of pre-treatment preparation. It is usually necessary to remove utility and outlet covers to reach bed bugs located behind the walls or along electrical wiring. Beds will need to be disassembled, dressers must be emptied and the drawers removed and furniture must be taken apart as much as possible. Bedding and clothes must be washed and dried on the high setting for at least 45 minutes. Depending upon the severity of the infestation, treatments may be required every other week until eradication is achieved.

The Bed Bug Bullet method to total bed bug eradication starts with:
- Inspect to determine the level of infestation and where the hot spots are located. If bed bugs are present move on to step two.
- Preparation: Remove all bedding and dry in a dryer on high heat for 30 - 50 minutes. Also, bag all loose clothing and bedding that may be laying around and dry on high heat for 30 - 50 minutes. Leave everything else in place as not to disturb the bed bug hiding places, doing so can cause them to move to other areas in your home. Also continue to sleep in your room, if you move the bed bugs move with you, spreading the infestation.
- Treat all hot spots with the Bed Bug Bullet and then work away from the hot spots, dusting the rest of the residence using the special applicator attachments to get in all the cracks and crevices to kill females that have moved away from the hot spots, as well as emerging nymphs.
- Leave an invisible residual protective layer that keeps killing bed bugs for months.
